On May 29th, xxxx Julianna VanEnk contacted me about a stray cat she had finally caught up with. When he tested positive for Feline Leukemia, she didn't feel she could integrate him into her household, so she asked that we put her energetic ebony boy on our waiting list for Big Sids. It took us up until October 14th to finally be able to open our doors to him, but when we did, he was enthralled! Happy to meet the acquaintance of anyone and everyone he crossed paths with, he meshed with the cats and crew as if he had always been a member of our furry family. I asked his rescuer to give me a summary of the six months he spent in her care, and here is what she had to say about her gorgeous guy: "I had seen Gaius wandering our neighborhood for a few years now, and over time was able to befriend him. At first, I thought someone owned him since he seemed well-fed and fairly clean. However, over time, his appearance became rattier, a couple chunks disappeared from his ear-tips, and he sported a few injuries plus a rather dramatic limp. I had also witnessed an intense cat fight or two between him and the other neighborhood strays. It was at that point that I managed to get him to follow me into our screened-in front porch, which would become his residence for the next 6 months. As his injuries healed and his coat gained a new luster with consistent feeding, his personality started to develop into a quirky and outgoing boy. He loves attention and would constantly rub himself all over whatever part of me he could reach. Being held was a scary experience for him at first, but he eventually started to enjoy it, as evidenced by his becoming a loud little motorboat in my arms. He is also very food oriented, which I exploited to teach him a few tricks - he can give high fives, jump over obstacles, and crawl through tunnels I would make with my legs as I sat outside with him. He's also a very squeaky and talkative boy. The entire time I had him, he had no litterbox issues (even though I have my own male cat indoors, whom I'm sure he could smell.) He was a little wary of new people at first, but the longer I had him, the more he opened up. I'm sure he'll make outgoing addition to a new home in no time at all!" Well her take on Gauis is spot-on, as he has proven within mere minutes to be all that she said he was...and SO much more! He is personality plus and a real loverboy. He emanates exuberance and seems to bubble over with glee, finding fun and fascination in the simplest of things at our sanctuary. I know I speak for everyone when I express our sincere gratitude to Julianna and her husband for caring for him until a spot opened up, as this precious boy is simply a joy!
