On October 12th, xxxx, I received an email from a friend of ours regarding this outrageously wonderful orange and white fella: "Hi Dr. Jen. So sorry to bug you. So, today an acquaintance of mine rescued a very friendly and apparently healthy stray orange cat here in Kalamazoo who an elderly couple had named Ginger. Ginger turned out to be a neutered male who tested positive for FIV. I arranged for it to be transported to a temporary location for the time being (someone's porch) and we are scrambling to try and find a placement for him. I know your position on intake but I thought I'd try because I'm not sure what we are going to do at this point with this poor guy." Since this great gal was coming up to see me with her own cat on the 22nd, we arranged for her to transport this fine fella to me then. We both chuckled about the choice of name, and I agreed to come up with a moniker befitting such marvelous creature! Once I met him and spent some time with him, I knew instantly I wanted to pay homage to a fabulous former Crash Cat adopted and named by my co-worker Nicole, and since this guy had obviously been playing the field for quite some time before his arrival, Cecil fit him to a tee! Born in the fall of xxxx, we have no idea how or why this guy ended up homeless, but we sure are fortunate that the couple took a shine to him before they left for Florida, or who knows what would have happened to him. I do know he was used as target practice at some point, as I removed a pellet from his right hip, but thankfully he wasn't injured more severely. He is as happy-go-lucky as they come and really is quite enamored by all of the volunteers who dote on him. I mean, this guy wants for nothing now that he is one of our crew, and he is enjoying his afternoon naps on a sunny window sill and the feeding frenzy each evening - LIFE IS GOOD! Handsome and hunky, Cecil is also a bonafide sweetie with such an easy-going manner that you want to cozy up next to him and let him lull you into a state of bliss with his perfectly pitched purr!
