In April of xxxx, Kimberly Kruse from Friends of Companion Animals in Monroe contacted me about possibly helping her organization out with a fine but Feline Leukemia positive fella named Seth. They had taken him in as a stray and had fallen head over paws in love with this boy, who followed them around like a lovesick puppy! I immediately put this overwhelmingly handsome orange tabby on our waiting list, but it was October 1st until I could finally open our doors to him. And, in the interim, he had been bunking with Mel, a modest and introverted tabby and white boy who was also Feleuk positive, so I opted not to break up the roomies and welcomed them both. It appeared as if Seth has taken Mel under his wing and was responsible for the confidence he had finally developed while bunking with him. Not one to break the ties that bind, I was more than happy to offer both boys a home with us here at Big Sids Sanctuary! It was evident who was the leader and who was the follower, from the second Seth bounded out of his travel carrier with glee and reckless abandon! I had to gently extricate Mel from the confines of his cage, and once I did he gently latched on to me and held on for dear life. i set them up in our intake suite at the clinic together, thinking Seth would settle down and soothe his weary pal; Seth had other ideas and was climbing the run door and freeing himself within seconds. So, I opened the run door and allowed two of our other Sid's kids (who were at the clinic for one reason or another) to meander on in, introduce themselves to this beautiful but bashful boy. Mel had made new friends, Seth was out and about and all was right with the world! Once at our facility, Seth took the reigns and ran with them - and hasn't stopped since! Born in the spring of xxxx, he is a take-charge kinda guy who is fearless and almost has a frenetic energy about him. He is fun personified, an energizer bunny minus the long ears and cotton-ball tail! He was quick to learn the ropes and establish himself as a resident, as well as making human and feline friends in a snap and cementing his place in our shelter as quite a charming, charismatic and comical character! Mel (who was born in early xxxx) on the other paw, was more subdued and reserved, as we fully expected), but since we allow our newbies to explore and excavate their surroundings at their own pace, he is free to take things as slow as he wishes. Our goal is to make each individual cat feel safe and secure in their own right, on their own time-table. And, with our assistance and unlimited TLC, Mel will find just how lovely life is for him now that he is one of us! Also, there are quite a few circumspect, quietly cautious kitties he can chum around with now, avoiding the hustle and bustle of the kind of crowd Seth may attract:) There is strength in numbers, and since our head count is always at 130, neither boy will be at a lack for the purrfect type of companionship they seek! A big thank you goes out to the wonderful people at Friends of Companion Animals, who not only trapped Mel and 60 other cats/kittens from a colony at a hotel, but for not giving up on these two wonderful boys when the dreaded blue dot showed up on their Feline Leukemia tests. You saw to it that they would both have a second chance at the type of live they each deserve and for that we cannot express enough gratitude.
