Domestic Short Hair - White - C.j. - Extra Large - Adult - Male
On Saturday, July 27th, xxxx, I got a phone call from a pal of mine (aka Connor's dad Scott) as a friendly little stray had wandered into his backyard. The button-nosed boy ambled up to their bulldog's food dish and helped him self to some kibble, then made the rounds by head-butting anyone who had legs to rub and wrap himself around. When Scott picked him up, he was painfully thin and sickly looking, so he promptly called for assistance. I was at the clinic tending to some of our rescue's feline patients, so I asked him to bring him on out so we could see what was going on. From the moment he popped his scrawny little body of his carrier, I was smitten; with a face like THAT, it is impossible not to be! But the real sealer of the deal is that C.J. is as lovey-dovey of a cat as I have ever seen, and he wants NOTHING more than to be your constant companion. In fact, while he was recuperating at the clinic, I let him wander about, seeing the sights and following us all around like a love-sick puppy dog. More times than naught he almost caused me to fall on my butt, as I would turn around and he would be right there, at my feet, just waiting, or winding himself around my ankles if I was standing still! OK, but I digress - back to his initial predicament. When he arrived he was a bony but brave little boy who had recently been TNR'd (trap-neuter-returned). I am all for controlling the pet population and commend anyone whose mission it is to do so like me, BUT there has attention paid to the overall health and well-being of a cat BEFORE he is returned outdoors. As it was, CJ was stricken with raging, dehydrating diarrhea, a nasty ear infection, two rotten teeth that needed extracting and tested positive for FIV; cats with Feline Immunodeficiency Virus should not be let outdoors, as if they bite another cat, the risk of viral transmission inherently possible. Since Focus on Ferals is testing all of their TNR'd cats, I knew C.J. wasn't one of their recent cat's serviced. I can tell you that I was more than a bit ticked off, given the fact that if it weren't for Scott's attention, he would have been in dire straits, and at a greater risk than he was in the first place. Those of us in the rescue community have to realize that there are more facets to the work we do than just spaying and neutering; the bigger picture of what a stray cat NEEDS has to factor in, or a disservice is being done, not only to the cat, but to others involved in picking up the pieces. Thankfully, after a few days of R and R (and intense TLC sessions) C.J. has put on weight and his debilitating diarrhea had resolved and he was ready, willing and able to head down to Big Sids. Once he placed his dainty little paw on sanctuary ground, he was in pure heaven, with the volunteers gushing over him and the other cats making him feel right at home. He is by far one of our friendliest felines in the joint, and that says A LOT, as our entire facility is chock full of the most outgoing, social cats on the planet:) Oh and his name? Well it stands for 'Connor Jr.' but I also nicknamed him 'Cute Juice' while he was hanging out with me at the clinic. If I didn't already have a house full, he would be gracing me with his presence on a daily basis, as I an totally gaga over this boy. But honestly, he is such a people purr-son that I think sharing him with the volunteers is just what the doctor ordered; he is in his element when he is wrapping himself around his adoring fans!
