Domestic Medium Hair - Brown - Mimsie - Medium - Senior - Female
I thought nothing was more rude and frustrating than someone dumping a cat off on our doorstep without anyone being at our facility to find the cat and bring it in to safety. But, when our Tuesday night shift at our sanctuary caught a man driving away from our building after having not only dumped off two cats, but leaving them taped up in a plastic litter box and storage tote in the rain, I was utterly appalled. As luck would have it that night, our crew was still in place, although one volunteer was leaving when she caught what was happening out of the corner of her a eye - made hopped in her car to chase after the guy. Shaking down to her toes she called the others on shift to rescue the cats left on the side stoop, them followed the culprit as long as she dared, getting his license plate number, make and model of the car (though sadly that did us no good). In the meantime, the others swooped in and scooped up the two terrified kitties, cutting them out of their duct tape and plastic prisons, allowing them to breathe the sweet air once again. WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?!
Well, the guy was 'kind' enough to leave us a whole forty bucks and a story about how their former owner of 8 years passed away, leaving them behind, so out of the kindness of his heart he took them in. But when they developed issues urinating in the house, so he said, he felt it was better to leave them with us so we could find them outdoor homes as mousers. Unbelievable! Yes, that seems like the perfect solution for a 10 year old INTACT female and an 9 year old front declawed male, to take them to a barn and have them live out their lives catching mice and trying not to become food for larger prey. And the problem with piddling outside of the box? Well dummy had you taken what I am sure was your very own cat to the vet to be SPAYED (novel idea) then maybe her uterus wouldn't have been infected, causing her to urinate excessively because he was ill! In fact, a few more days of her condition (known as pyometra) and this poor old lady would have been six feet under after having suffered immensely.
Yes, I am ticked - this is irresponsibility at it's worst. I shudder at the thought at what could have happened to two of the gentlest, most affectionate cats on the block. From the minute Thackerey Binx stepped out of his litter box jailhouse he was as happy as a clam! Such a darling gentleman who delights in any and all human contact, who makes friends fast and feverishly and who adores sauntering around the place meeting and greeting all those who stoop down to lavish his pretty face with pets and praises. Born in May and xxxx, I am hedging a guess that he is Mimsie's son; why he was the only one altered and front declawed is beyond me, but then again we haven't been dealing with rocket scientists in this neglectful situation. Speaking of Mimsie, who was probably born in May of xxxx or so, well once she recovered from her surgeries (she had a mammary cyst as well) she gloriously explored our facility with glee and about as much reckless abandon as Thackerey! In fact she showed that mothering is her second nature by taking two of our youngest residents under her protective wing; now the dynamic duo is a terrific threesome, as they have a new mom in the mix!
Our story has a very happy middle, and I have no doubt that it will have a happy ending for these two when we find the sweetest of sweet seniors a home of their own. I am upset at how these two were treated, but am thrilled that I was able to provide the necessary care to the darling duo and that our rescue can provide for them beyond their wildest dreams until the land in a place to call their own - fur-ever!
