Domestic Medium Hair - Orange and white - Brad Pit - Large
Let me start off this bio by stating, for once and for all, that CATS SHOULD NOT WEAR COLLARS THAT ARE NOT BREAKAWAY! I don't care if it is a flea collar or not, THIS TYPE OF COLLAR IS DANGEROUS! Read the following email from this kitty's rescuer and you will see why, then take a look at the photos I have included. "I feed stray cats in my neighborhood in Sparta, and always put fresh food and water out for them. This pretty cat hung around a lot. The last few days it sat out by the food dishes and meowed a lot. I talked to it and tried to coax it closer. It finally came close enough the other night and I could see it had something wrapped around it's neck and front leg. It was so tight it was cutting into it's fur. I knew I had to cut it off so I did - and it stuck to it and didn't fall right off. First thing I thought was 'oh no it's embedded'! I stayed with it outside and what appeared to be a flea collar fell off eventually although it was stretched as far as it could go. The cat had a huge injury of some kind but I didn't get a good look. I got a surgical glove and triple antibiotic ointment and globbed it on the best I could. Thankfully he was still around the next day, as if he was thanking me for the helping him. I bribed him with tuna and now he is where he is getting help with you." Sheila wasnt kidding when she said he was terribly injured, as the collar and the chemicals it contained caused such a deep tissue wound by rubbing into his flesh, that the muscle below his arm was exposed, and his neck was abraded and inflamed from contact. I can't imagine how desperately that poor boy had tried in vain to relieve himself of his plastic shackle, only to have to hobble and limp about for weeks (if not longer) hoping that somehow, someone would come to his aid. Thank God Sheila took the time to dig deeper into what was bothering him, freeing him from the rigid noose that was binding him and causing tremendous pain. And be thankful you all can't smell what we discovered, as rotting skin and pockets of pus are never easy on the nostrils. To top it off, this 5-6 year old (born in xxxx) had very few teeth left, and what did remain was in dire need of a dental cleaning and extraction of root fragments. Overall, he was an infected, inflamed, hot mess, but in spite of all that ailed him, Brad Pit did nothing but purr and ask for attention while I examined him. It's going to take some time, lots of pain meds, oral and topical antibiotics, but his axillary wound SHOULD heal. However, I have had several of these types of injuries over the years, and the process is slow and an arduous task; in fact one cat's leg had to be amputated as nothing attempted was ever able to heal the tissue destruction that occurred. So I will remain cautiously optimistic and update you all as to when Brad will be able to be adopted, but I felt his story needed to be told ASAP. Everyone at Crash's just adores him! Not only is he gallant and gorgeous, he is affectionate in a demonstrative way, asking for attention, then heading butting you, pushing his entire face into the palm of your hand and grabbing it so you couldn't possiblly walk on by without nuzzling him and telling him how dashing he is! He is very open and engaging, a friendly fella who did not let the world stomp on his spirit or damage his soul. He will be a wonderful addition to any family that wants a gentle boy to dote on, one who will love them back with every ounce of his beautiful being!
