USED- JAPANESE NETSUKE RED FIGURINES BLACK BASE
This is a nice piece approximately 7 1/2" X 4 1/2" with attractive red and black contrasting colors.
This is some information I found:
netsuke (???) [netsu?ke] are miniature sculptures that were invented in 17th-century Japan to serve a practical function (the two Japanese characters ne+tsuke mean "root" and "to attach").
Netsuke, like the inr? and ojime, evolved over time from being strictly utilitarian into objects of great artistic merit and an expression of extraordinary craftsmanship. Such objects have a long history reflecting the important aspects of Japanese folklore and life. Netsuke production was most popular during the Edo period in Japan, around xxxx-xxxx. Today, the art lives on, and some modern works can command high prices in the UK, Europe, the USA, Japan and elsewhere. Inexpensive yet faithful reproductions are available in museums and souvenir shops.
The four items appear to be in great condition. the material for the figures appear to be some kind of resin or plastic and the base looks kind of like slate with a quick glance but is most likely a resin or plastic too. I did not find any manufacturer, artist or other information on the piece and I do not know how old they may be. Other than that, I believe the only thing missing is a new owner.
These items and the other Japanese motif items advertised were privately owned for a number of years and came from the estate of an elderly female widow.
Look at the pictures to see other features. ?.save a bunch of bucks on this one?.The pictures are accurate representations of the condition and are part of the description. Of course there is some normal wear on it, but everything used is that way.
